Dale L. Johnson, Ph.D., Professor and Principal Investigator David McCormick, M.D., Paul Swank, Ph.D., Connie Baldwin, Ph.D., Joan Aker, Ph.D., Paula Wagener, Research Assistant Beginning just after birth, 700 infants were recruited into the project at UTMB in Galveston. Ears were examined biweekly for 3 years to determine presence of otitis media with effusion. Children were tested at ages 2, 3 5 and 7 for cognitive, language and speech competence and behavior problems. Work is currently underway with school-age children to examine possible effects on school performance. |
