Thriving in an ever-changing economy: The role of I/O and OB

We aim to identify ways in which I/O psychologists can help effectively overcome challenges that both employees and employers encounter in times of economic instability. Additionally, we want to discuss the impact of our changing economy on the profession and employability of practicing I/O psychologists. Specifically, we would like to encourage conference participants to investigate novel and research-based management practices that are most successful in combating economic crises and hardships. We think it is important for I/O and OB scientists and practitioners to collaborate in order to help organizations effectively handle the negative consequences of a receding economy, such as increased involuntary turnover and other associated outcomes that are deleterious for both organizations and employees (e.g., diminished well-being and morale of incumbents). Among topics we plan to address as part of the conference are:
