As a health and social psychologist, Dr. Lu's goal is to understand biological, psychosocial, and cultural factors that may influence the origin, development, and consequences of diseases and to develop social and behavioral interventions, particularly for vulnerable populations. Dr. Lu has developed several intertwined lines of research:
  • biopsychosocial model of pain and ethnic and gender differences in pain,
  • health benefits of expressive writing and emotional disclosure,
  • developing culturally competent psychosocial interventions for Asian Americans cancer survivors,
  • cancer survivorship issues among childhood cancer and breast cancer survivors, and
  • applying advanced quantitative methods (i.e., multivariate and multilevel modeling) in these areas above.
